Racial Equity

Racial disparities in the criminal legal system are deeply rooted in systemic inequalities that require intentional responses. In many ways, the COVID-19 pandemic exposed these deep rooted issues and presents a unique opportunity for America to address these disparities. Defenders should play a critical role in advancing equitable policy solutions within the criminal legal system, and it is important for other criminal legal system stakeholders to focus on racially equitable responses and collaborate with experts who identify with the communities most impacted.
