Defender Leadership

Leadership for Lasting Change provides the training and resources needed to equip public defenders with the tools and knowledge they need to take a leading role in advocating and realizing pretrial and racial equity reforms in their jurisdictions. We stand at a critical moment for criminal justice reform in this country: on the heels of a national conversation about the racial unrest, police reform, and public trust in justice institutions. Public defenders are uniquely positioned in seeing firsthand the harmful effects that misuse of jails has on clients and their families, as well as the negative impacts on courts and justice systems. In too many places, however, defenders lack access to training and assistance needed to engage in effective policy reform advocacy. This online resource seeks to fill the gap in providing the necessary tools and resources for defender leaders.
